Lindbloom captures you from the start with the vivid picture and background he paints. He explains some of the most intricate details when it comes to organized crime. How blood is supposed to run thicker than water but when it comes to rising to the top in the syndicate...he takes a different approach with the main character Omnio Falcone, as he is goes against the grain to earn his spot and respect. I have a about 2 hours commute time on a train to work every day and when the time came around for that commute, I was ecstatic to get this book back in my hand to see what was going to happen next. The book will illicit emotion and heart racing moments where you just have to set it down and catch your breath for a few moments before lifting it back up to read. In my opinion, this book should be on the big screen. I Look forward to what this author publishes next.Product details

Most people have a preconceived notion of what Mafia stories entail. This story is well written with good character development. From the beginning, the way the story is laid out, you want to keep reading to see how these characters intertwine and how they get to where they end up. You start to care about some from the start and root for them. Can be hard for the length to keep a continuum in a story without getting lost. Good, thoughtful writing.
A well written first novel by an author who has first hand experience of life in the Syndicate. Truly believable as he takes us through the life and work of young Omnio Falcone, the last male heir of the Falcone crime family. The details and story line come alive in the streets of Detroit and east side suburbs. Growing up in the same neighborhoods, I was able to connect to the story and visualize exactly what the King and his crew were doing to earn money, develop loyalties, punish betrayal and spend the money they earned. A few characters seemed a bit contrived and too predictable to me, but could just be my familiarity with and love of this genre of fiction. And finally, he got me thinking about what probably happened to Jimmy Hoffa!
Love the book. Great writing. I feel like I've been transported to the places in the book. Can't put it down. Finally glad to see a book I've enjoyed so much. Grew up in Detroit. It's nice to read about familiar places.
Wow! I can't wait for Volume 2 to be released! I haven't been into the "Mafia" type books before but I thought I would give this one a try. Alan did an outstanding job of keeping me interested and wanting more of this story. Never a dull or boring page as he explained who was who and how it all works in this world of crime. I am hooked! I found myself trying to pace myself so I wouldn't finish the book so quick, but... it didn't happen. It was too enjoyable and entertaining to put down. Now what do I do until his next book comes out? I think I'll re-read the book again! It is that good!
I've read 126 different mob books ! This one just grabbed me and wouldn't let go ! Gunner AKA Alan Lindbloom is a friend ! Yet this review will be harsher because he is ! You'll be grabbed word for word page for page ! It won't let you go till you a made Detroit Mobster ! Read it and become a mobster the words will envolve your life and turn you into the read with an overwhelming feel of badassness ! Congrats GUNNER !
I had been awaiting the release of this book for what seemed like forever! When I got it (Ebook), I started reading it right away. Finished it the same night. I couldn't put it down! Beautifully written. Very suspenseful. Left me wanting to read more! I would highly recommend this book to everyone.
I've always had an interest in books, movies, and documentaries about the mafia. I typically read or watch non-fiction as I'm not usually a fan of fictional stories. Mr. Lindbloom's novel has changed that. If a book doesn't catch my attention after the first chapter, I put it down for good. This was not the case with "To Be A King" Volume 1. Beginning with the prelude, the author had me instantly gripped by his ability to make me constantly wondering what was coming next. I would catch myself thinking about what was going to happen when I wasn't reading and at work due to the incredible amount attention payed to in depth detail of the characters and the backdrops surrounding them. And just when you think things have calmed down in the story for a minute, another mind blowing twist comes from around the corner. So if you are a fan of Mafiosi or crime fiction, your opus has arrived and you will be ordering volume 2 before you finish volume 1. I enjoyed it so much I'm eager to see a screenplay adapted from it as "To Be A King" could be a film that rivals any in the genre and isn't based on the books or films that are not courageous enough to set a majority of the story outside of the cliché New York City setting. So if you enjoy Mario Puzo, be ready to start hearing a lot of buzz surrounding Gunner Alan Lindbloom.
