Intriguing collection of short stories with beautifully written characters and thought provoking tales that stretch beyond imagination with their historical details.
If only L.S. Temmer had been my high school world history teacher, I may have paid more attention. Her innate ability to reveal our common human needs despite vast cultural differences is captivating, and much appreciated . I am never disappointed in Ms. Temmer's stories.
Highly Recommended.

Children of the Sun and Other Stories edition by L Temmer Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

There are books that you read quickly and then forget about them just as quick...and then there are those special books, like the Children of the Sun that are captivating, haunting and you want to savor every page and every word like the finest piece of chocolate you've ever indulged in. Children of the Sun is a brilliant masterpiece. LS Temmer's writing is hypnotic. She transports you back in time and into the lives of others with her beautiful and descriptive passages. This book is truly one of the best books I have read. I highly recommend it to other readers.
In all of her touching stories of our every day life, of broken dreams, successes, depression and love, we see L.S. Temmer's intellectual brilliance. Taking us through a too short childhood in the "lost but never forgotten country'' through the post- revolutionary history of Russian socialism, to the terrible situation in Argentina during the Dirty War, each of stories are marvelously rich in humanity and psychological insight.

Especially moving is the philosophical, Children of the Sun, a story about spiritual healers depicting the hard life of Indian people conquered by the Spanish and the ensuing colonialism and destruction of human pride at the dawn of the modern age.

I read this book twice and highly recommend it.
Children of the Sun & Other Stories is a rich, thought-provoking and thoroughly delightful read. Although the eight short stories weave together to create a singular colorful book, each also stands on its own, with the result that this reader, at least, ended up with particular favorites. I took the book with me on a recent trans-Atlantic flight, and found myself devouring it with absolute pleasure, oblivious to the pack of peanuts and glass of water on my tray table. Ms. Temmer writes with clarity, erudition, sensitivity and a keen sense of wit; one can't help but wonder the extent to which her own life experiences have informed her narratives, which lilt gently between fiction and historiography. From the reflective story of a young immigrant from Yugoslavia to the intrepid photographer who finds love and then loss to the ancient Russian émigrée whose conscientiousness is buried in her past, Children of the Sun & Other Short Stories is a truly marvelous book to savor.
After reading 'Death of an Activist' I thought I knew what to expect from Children of the Sun and Other Stories - characters, environments and events which were created by a true, craftsman-like story teller. I was wrong. I was quite unprepared for the tenderness and the muscularity of Ms Temmer's approach to these stories and the depth of her vision as well as the depth of my own while under her spell!
As an artist I found myself often envying the way she drew and painted her characters.
I don't usually approach writing or stories like a metaphor for painting or vice versa but Temmer lets me see her world that way.
I sense somehow that if she weren't a writer she'd be a painter with an illustrative bent and she'd be the best!
Her mind and her heart would demand it - demand that she let you in to the depth of her soul.

Thank you for these. I will read them over and over.
The short stories are very original and beautifully written. The first tw, Unexpected Arrival and Chains were espeially charming and led to a series of entertaining tales. Highyly recommended.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Children of the sun. Each story left me wanted more. As I read, time slowed and I felt immersed in this world. I enjoyed the landscapes, the imagination, and events. Beautiful slices of life. I highly recommend reading it!
This is a work by a new and very versatile writer. In particular I was taken with the story "" Unexpected Arrival" because it brought back long-forgotten memories of my own childhood spent with with relatives in a small town. Reading it brought me tears of joy and many happy memories.
